Beloved friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and that you continually enjoy good health, just as your soul is prospering. (3 John 2, TPT)

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. (3 John 2, NLT)

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 2, NKJV)

In order for sufficiency to be total, it must be in the two dimensions highlighted in the scripture.

Physical – health, mental, emotional and material.

Spiritual – relationship with God, destiny fulfilment.

They both go hand in hand which is why Paul desired both for us. The absence of one has a direct effect on the other.

Physical sufficiency includes good health, physical needs met, sound intellectual mind, emotional and mental health, business and career prosperity and so on. If just one of these is lacking, it affects the other.

The woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8:43-48 was a rich woman who had a disease. Her search for healing had devoured all her wealth and must have affected her mentally and emotionally too. Her business and career would not have been able to thrive, as she was preoccupied with her health. Many of us are in similar condition of physical insufficiency. There is a way out! What we need to do is like the woman with the issue of blood, touch the hem of His garment in order to receive wholeness. That wholeness is what brings our sufficiency.

Do you have a physical lack in any area of your life? Is there a situation that has taken up your resources? Just hold on to the hem of His garment and receive the wholeness that restores total sufficiency.

Spiritual sufficiency has to do with our relationship with God and our fulfilling destiny. If we look at the children of Israel, each time they moved away from their spiritual source i.e. God, the enemy had the upper hand and plundered them, they lived defeated lives. Immediately they retraced their steps and went back to God, their victory was restored.

Spiritual sufficiency brings about physical sufficiency. The lives of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Babylon illustrates this. From the onset, they displayed total dependence upon God by their refusal to be fed with the food, literature and culture of Babylon thus preserving their spirits from contamination. As a result, they were able to stand up to the different kings who reigned and glorified God each time, they were promoted to the highest level possible in the land even though they were slaves. They stood up for God and God ensured that man, systems and everything possible stood up for them.

In summary, it is essential for us to ensure that we maintain that balance by praying it into our lives and ensuring we work earnestly towards it keeping our relationship with God refreshed always. This we can achieve by approaching Him and confessing that He is our source and sufficiency in all things.

  1. Father, help me to depend upon you in all things and hold on to the hem of the garment of Christ that I may have sufficiency in all things.
  2. O God, give me the grace to resist the food, literature and culture that pollutes, that my life may be preserved unto all spiritual sufficiency in You in the name of Jesus.
